COVID Cup Fund Questions
Main Post:
So, I’ve been seeing posts here and on Facebook about the COVID Cup Fund. I know it’s $500 for emergent things. I found a link to the application but I’ve not heard this from anyone but online. My SM is terrible at communicating and posting weekly updates, so can anyone give me details about it? Like, is there a maximum amount of hours I can be working to apply? Is there a cut off of when I can apply? If I apply and don’t use it immediately will I get in trouble? Just looking for some guidance pls

Cup fund?
Main Post:
Can someone explain how the cup fund works? What can the funds be used for? Who and how can you apply for it?

I am convinced they only give out money in the most EXTREME circumstances. I dont understand how we have millions in this "fund" and one of my partners needed a grand for vehicle repairs only to be told "We don't give out funds for vehicle repairs." Wtf?
Cup Grant/Rent/LOA
Main Post:
Hey all you I had a mental break. Ended up in the pysch ward for a week, I'm currently in the process of getting short term disability (loa) thru sedgwick.
My rent is 11 days overdue. And I don't know how I'm gonna make it. Can you apply for the cupfund on a medical loa? Can you get rent help without an eviction notice? (my county has a rent momtoriuam for about another month).
My grandma is sending me some money to help with copays for therapy/ and potential thyrioid issues. But I really need to pay my rent.

On the CUP Fund PDF, it does say:
ELLIGIBLE STARBUCKS CUP FUND CATEGORIES
The list below captures the high-level categories for which we evaluate requests for CUP Fund grants:
- Housing/Ultilities (either past due or pending eviction/shut off)
When it talks about what is not elligible it says
- Lost wages when receiving income replacement or reduced income due to a variance in a partners scheduled hours.
So I think as long as your application specified that you’re applying for the CUP Fund for your past due housing bill, and not as supplemental income for your LOA (which should be easy because it sounds like your rent was due before you started the application for the LOA) it would be fine.
The one thing you may need clarification on is:
- You must be an active partner at the time a decision is made on your application.
I can’t link it because I’m on my phone but looked it up on my computer, but if you go the limited Partner Hub, and search for “CUP Fund Guidelines” you should get the PDF that I got this information from.
THERES A COVID-19 CUP FUND RELIEF GRANT WHERE YOU CAN RECEIVE UP TO $500 AFTER APPLYING (in the U.S., not sure about other countries)

If you need help you can DM me or ask your managers. Also I’m on mobile so sorry for my formatting.
All you have to do is:
- log into the partner hub
- search for “cup fund”
- click the first link
- then on the right hand side there will be a link that says “COVID-19 CUP fund application”.
That will take you to the form and I encourage people to only request what you need. Be as specific as possible, include numerical amounts for the bills you have that are past due, and be sure to spread the word to your fellow partners!
Love you guys and I wish you the best! <3

Hello! My current living situation with my parents is very toxic. I no longer sleep, feel myself going back into my depression and everyone keeps saying I look dead/ malnourished or skinny. I don’t know much about the cup fund but would like to know if they are also helpful with moving out (ASAP), would I have to pay everything back?
What other programs is there to help out because I honestly feel like if I stay with my parents, I won’t make it.

I think as a partner funded program, partners should have more say in how grants are given. For example, a friend of mine applied because he was driving an hour to and from work ( he was relocating, lease wasn’t up, new apartment wasn’t ready blah blah). His car took a dump and it was a $2000 repair. car repairs are not covered under the cup fund, okay I feel you. But, if he couldn’t get to work, he couldn’t pay his bills. He applied for the cup fund and was told they don’t do car repairs, but that when he got evicted to apply again. And this is something they don’t tell you: THEY TOLD HIM THAT BEFORE THEY WOULD HELP HIM THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO DRAIN HIS 401 AND SELL HIS BEAN STOCK.
I’m sorry, what?
Maybe this isn’t the best example of a person in a dangerous situation, I realize there are people truly suffering and I want my money to go to people that truly have no options. But to ask a partner to drain their 401? I’m just not into that.
I would even be into having a “cup fund loan” type situation. You’re car take a poop, you get a $2000 Cup Fund and slowly pay it back from your paycheck.
I dunno, I just work here.

Cup fund, anyone ever used it? Or more importantly gotten funds in an emergency from it?
Main Post:
Someone very close to me is going through a very hard time. They applied to the cup fund, and basically got told that untill all the finacial hardships, that she is trying to avoid via cup fund, happen. They can't help her out. Has anyone been able to use this thing? As an outsider, it sounds to me like this money is collected, and made difficult to use, whule it sits in a savings account somewhere and acrues interest. Sorry for the rant.

I used it a few months ago to help us when we lost all of our food due to power loss from hurricane Matthew. I evacuated as we were told to, and I lost my full time job because of it. Thankfully I was still part time at Starbucks, so I kinda hopped around stores for a little while. But we barely made ends meat, and lost everything in our freezer and fridge. I have two little ones at home, so someone said I should call and apply for the cup fund. I did and I got $450 in two days to go grocery shopping. It wasn't much, but it was enough to restock everything we lost and have the food necessary for my kids.
What's the Cup Fund process like?
Main Post:
How do you prove what you need? How long does the process take? How soon do you get the money? Any other details would be great.
